Engineer App

Built for the field,
not the spreadsheet.

Scan. Inspect. Capture. Sync. Every fire-door inspection an engineer needs to perform, designed around how the work actually happens on site. Multi-tenant from day one, BS 8214 compliant out of the box, and built to survive a day with no signal three floors underground.

What it does

The engineer's instrument,
on the engineer's phone.

The DoorTRACE Engineer App is the field tool that fire-door inspectors actually use on site. It pairs with the portal you're contracted to, loads the door's history the moment you scan the plaque, and walks you through the British Standard BS 8214 inspection workflow with every step photo-evidenced and timestamped. When you finish, the report is already in the client's hands. There's no spreadsheet handover, no end-of-week PDF wrangle, no email chain.

It's been built around the way independent fire-door engineers actually work. You arrive on site, you might not have signal, you might be working for two or three different clients in the same week, and you need the data to flow back to each one cleanly without you having to think about it. The app does that. You scan, you inspect, you go home. The portal on the client's end gets the inspection, the photos, the defects raised, the signatures, and the Golden Thread evidence trail without anyone retyping anything.

Built for compliance, not convenience

Six capabilities, every inspection.

Scan to start

Point the camera at any DoorTRACE compliance plaque and the app opens that door's full record. Inspection history, defect list, last engineer sign-off, scheduled next inspection date, all loaded before you've put the phone down. No door-ID lookup, no manual search through a spreadsheet, no risk of inspecting the wrong door.

BS 8214 inspection

The full 41-point inspection workflow from BS 8214:2016, embedded in the app. Every check is guided, every required photo prompt is in the right place, every defect prompt is conditional on the right answer. The engineer doesn't have to remember the standard. The standard walks them through.

Defects captured cleanly

Raise a defect in under thirty seconds: severity, photo evidence, written description, recommended action. The defect is then tracked end-to-end through the portal, assigned, remediated, post-remedial verified, closed. Every step timestamped, every status change audited, every photo retained as compliance evidence.

Offline-first

Basements, plant rooms, lift shafts, riser cupboards. Fire doors live where signal does not. Download the day's jobs in the morning, capture inspections and photos and signatures entirely offline, and sync automatically when you reconnect. Nothing is dropped, nothing is lost, no manual upload step.

Branded for the client

When an engineer is working on one client's portfolio, the app shows that client's branding. When they pick up a job for a different client, the branding changes with them. The engineer always knows whose property they're on; the client always gets consistent branding on the engineer's phone.

Internal or external, one app

An engineer might be employed directly by a client, or an independent contractor working across several. The app supports both: one engineer account, multiple engagements, clean data separation between tenants. Switching between clients is automatic when you scan a different plaque. No logins, no profile switching, no friction.

Where we go further

Six things only
DoorTRACE does.

The same fire-door inspection workflow exists in half a dozen other apps. These six are the differences that matter. The ones that don't exist anywhere else in the UK market.

01

Pre-loaded BS 8214, not a generic checklist

Other apps
A customisable inspection template you have to build yourself, with no guidance on what each check actually means.
DoorTRACE
The full 41-point British Standard BS 8214:2016, embedded with help text on every check. The engineer doesn't have to remember the standard. The standard walks them through.
02

Full door history at the first scan

Other apps
You start each inspection from scratch, with nothing more than a door ID and a blank form.
DoorTRACE
Scan the plaque, the door's entire record loads instantly. Last engineer, last defects, certification reference, next due date, photos of every previous inspection.
03

One engineer, multiple clients

Other apps
Tied to one company's instance. Switch client, switch app. Re-onboard. Re-learn the UI.
DoorTRACE
Built for internal and external engineers alike. One login, multiple engagements, clean tenant separation, branding switches automatically when you scan a plaque on a different client's site.
04

Post-remedial workflow

Other apps
Defects get marked 'done' by whoever fixed them. No verification, no evidence, no closure record.
DoorTRACE
Every defect goes through a proper closure flow. Post-remedial photo evidence at both ends, sign-off from the engineer, audit-trail preserved. Closure is provable.
05

Public door pages, no other UK platform has this

Other apps
You need the app, the login, and the right tenant to see anything about a door.
DoorTRACE
Every plaque has its own public verification page. Tenants, regulators, fire risk assessors, brigade inspectors all see the door's live compliance status in two taps. No app, no login.
06

Golden Thread by default

Other apps
You generate a PDF report at the end and hope it satisfies the auditor or the regulator.
DoorTRACE
Every inspection automatically produces a Building Safety Act-ready audit trail. Append-only log, immutable history, regulator-ready evidence from the first scan to the last sign-off.

Offline-first by design

Plant rooms. Lift shafts.
The app works where the signal does not.

Fire doors don't live where the WiFi does. The job is rarely in the lobby. It's three floors below ground, behind two sets of fire doors, in a service riser. So the app is built for that reality: download the day's jobs in the morning, scan, inspect, capture photos, raise defects, sign off, all without a single bar of signal. Everything is stored locally and encrypted on the device. When you walk back outside and connectivity returns, the app syncs automatically. You don't have to remember. You don't have to press a button. The portal sees the inspections as if they happened live.

Locally stored, locally encrypted
AES-256 encryption on every record stored on device. If the phone is lost, the data is not readable. If access is revoked, the data is wiped on next sync attempt.
Automatic background sync
On reconnect, the app syncs inspections, photos, defects, and signatures in the background. No manual upload, no "don't close the app" warnings, no losing the day's work to a low battery.
WiFi-only mode, when you want it
Switch on WiFi-only sync and the app holds everything on the device until you're on WiFi, then uploads. No burning through your mobile data, and no surprise bill from sending a day's worth of inspection photos over a cellular plan.
Conflict resolution, audit-trail preserved
If two engineers somehow inspect the same door, the app records both, with timestamps, both syncs visible in the portal for triage. Nothing is silently dropped.
For engineers

Are you a fire-door inspector?
Here's how to join the network.

Most of this page is written for the companies who'd engage you to inspect fire doors. But if you're an engineer or you run an engineer company, you're a critical part of how this platform actually works. So this section is for you.

There's no application form, no waitlist, no vetting committee. The app on the App Store and Google Play is the network. Download it, sign up with your details, and you're discoverable to companies looking for engineers in your area. If a company already knows you, they can add you to their engagements directly. Your inspection work flows through the same app into their portal automatically. You work for one company, or several, on your own schedule.

01

Download the app

On the App Store or Google Play. Free. Works on basically any phone from the last six years.

02

Your name, email, and certifications. Two minutes. No application form, no waitlist, no fees.

03

Get to work

Companies can engage you. You can work for one or many. Multi-tenant by design, switching between them is automatic.

Nationwide

Engineers right across
the country.

Our engineer network is growing nationwide. Wherever your buildings are, there's a fire-door inspector nearby, or one joining soon.

Built different
Most fire-door software is generic field-service software with a checklist bolted on. DoorTRACE was built by people who've done the work, around the British Standard, the engineer's day, and the client's compliance obligation.
