A complete fire door inspection on four pages
This is not a generic checklist reformatted from somewhere else. The 41-point checklist
Every check across the full assembly: leaf, frame, gaps and clearances, intumescent and smoke seals, self-closing device, hinges, glazing, hardware, signage and overall condition. Pass, Fail or N/A on each item, with measurement boxes for the gap checks.
Defect log and sign-off
A structured log for every failed item: what was found, its priority and the action needed, plus a sign-off block for the inspector's signature, name and company.

What a fire door inspection checklist covers
A fire door only works as a complete assembly, so a proper checklist works through that assembly methodically. The 41 points group into the areas below. The detailed standard inspectors work to is BS 8214:2026, and in buildings with a storey over 11 metres, Regulation 10 sets the minimum checking frequency: communal fire doors at least quarterly, flat entrance doors at least annually.
Damage, warping, unauthorised modifications, a legible certification label, secure fixings and intact fire stopping between frame and wall.
The perimeter gap, typically around 3mm, and the threshold clearance, measured with a gap gauge rather than judged by eye.
Present, continuous, undamaged and not painted over. Cold smoke seals are checked on 'S' rated doors.
Closes fully into the frame and engages the latch from any angle, with no wedges or unauthorised hold-open devices.
The right number of fire-rated hinges with secure fixings, fire-rated glazing with intact beads, and compatible locks, latches and letterplates.
The correct 'Fire Door Keep Shut' signage, no evidence of fire or smoke damage, and a door that closes and latches securely.
