One thing we feel strongly about: an inspection checklist should teach, not just test. Many people responsible for fire doors are not fire safety specialists. The checklist is built around the requirements that actually govern fire doors in the UK. It reflects the inspection expectations set out in BS 8214, the code of practice for fire door assemblies, and it supports the duties placed on Responsible Persons by the Fire Safety Order and the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, which require communal door checks at least quarterly and flat entrance door checks at least annually in buildings with a storey over 11 metres.

In March 2026 a significant revision landed. BS 8214:2026 came into effect on 31 March 2026 and replaced the 2016 edition. It is the most significant update to the UK's primary fire door code of practice in a decade, and it changed the standard in three notable ways:

So the revision did not knock us off course. It validated the foundations.
