Our 41-point fire door inspection checklist is now a free PDF

27 July 2026 2 min readBy The DoorTRACE Team

From today, the 41-point checklist that powers every DoorTRACE inspection is available as a free, printable PDF. No email address, no sign-up form, no catch: download it, print it, and put it on a clipboard.

What's in the PDF

Four A4 pages that carry a full inspection from first sight of the door to sign-off:

  • An initial survey for a door's first inspection: door type, fire rating, leaf material and configuration, inspection frequency, self-closing device, manufacturer and certification reference. These are the same questions the DoorTRACE app asks when a newly registered door is inspected for the first time.
  • All 41 checks across the complete assembly, grouped into leaf, frame, gaps and clearances, intumescent and smoke seals, self-closing device, hinges, glazing, hardware, signage and overall condition, each marked Pass, Fail or N/A, with measurement boxes for the gap checks.
  • An access record for flat entrance doors, lined space for engineer notes, a structured defect log and a sign-off block.

The checklist is aligned to BS 8214:2026, and our guide to the full fire door inspection checklist walks through every item and the safety reason behind it.

Why we made it free

Two reasons, and both are simple.

First, more checked doors is a good thing, full stop. Plenty of organisations still run their inspections on paper, and a well-structured checklist in those hands beats a blank notepad every time. If the PDF means one more propped-open door gets noticed or one more painted-over seal gets logged, it has done its job.

Second, we can afford to be open about it. The value of DoorTRACE was never the list of checks: our guide already publishes every item, and the story of how the 41 points came together has been on this site for weeks. The value is what happens after the tick: the photo evidence, the defect that tracks itself through to a verified fix, the permanent audit trail, the report that writes itself. A paper checklist stops at the tick. The platform is everything that comes next.

How DoorTRACE helps

The DoorTRACE app runs this exact initial survey and 41-point checklist on the phone already in your pocket, with plain-English guidance on every item, photos and measurements captured at the door, and full offline support. Everything it captures flows into the wider platform: defect tracking, branded reports and a golden thread audit record. Start with the free PDF, and when the typing-up gets old, get in touch.
